Outer Banks Vacation
Since my husband and I got married, we've been saying that we are going to rent a house in Nags Head for a week. The hope is that my parents can come down from Michigan and my brother and his family can come from Raleigh and we can all spend a week of "sun and fun". To date we have yet to achieve this goal. I thought I would get a head start and see what our options would be for next summer's outer banks vacation.
Carolina Designs Realty offers homes of all sizes (up to 16 bedrooms) and was called the "Best bet for Rentals" by Washingtonian Magazine, so I checked them out.
I really like this one and the rates are fantastic. We could spend the week (depending on which week) for under $800 per family if we went right when the kids got out of school. Heck. the week of Christmas for this one is only $870, but I really want to go when the kids can enjoy the beach. It has 6 bedrooms, 51/2 baths, hot tub and private pool, and is only 400 yards from the water.
The think I like about renting versus hotel staying is the ability to eat meals at "home". We'll have 6 adults and 6 Children and I'd rather be able to eat when I felt like it versus trying to "schedule" meals to accomodate everyone. I figure we can take the Wii and after the kids eat, let them play some games while the adults have a nice meal and some adult beverages. I think this is a great way to spend a summer vacation, and the fact that it is only a couple hours away, makes it all that more appealing.
I might also mention that a smaller version (2-3 bedrooms) is definitely in my future plans for a "girls" week, maybe for my 45th birthday.
