Mome reads Mommy, My daughter's way to spell it when she was younger... It stuck. My son calls me Mome... just like it looks. I now sign all my notes to them "Love, Mome". It's our inside secret and makes them smile. I always want them to smile.

Hubby Owes Me...Big Time!

Yesterday was my MIL's birthday.
We, had no plans to do anything. This is a crazy week every year. MIL's Birthday on the 11th, In-Law's Anniversary (50 years) on the 13th, and Hubby's birthday (40) on the 16th. Usually we get together once during the week to celebrate all three.
I had put a pork shoulder in the crock pot yesterday morning at 6:30 and planned on NC BBQ sandwiches for dinner, with maybe some beans and chips, for the 4 of us. Hubby made other plans, at the last minute.
He called at 3:00 to say he hadn't bought his Mom anything for her birthday (he never does, I do) and wanted to do dinner. He had called them and told them we would bring dinner over.(What?) My MIL does not do anything "small" and I knew (or felt) that my BBQ, beans and chips would not be sufficient for a Celebration dinner.
I was in the middle of making cookies when Hubby called with his plan, and he had already called his mom to tell her we were bringing dinner, so I quickly finished the cookies and started making a cake. Had to wait to put the cake in so it wouldn't be done when I was at the bus stop picking up Boogie, put it in before I left. Picked up the kid, came back and started on his homework and took cake out of oven and into the freezer (had to get it cool enough to decorate).
Hubby came home (thankfully he caught a ride, if we had had to pick him up I may have freaked). I then went to the store for more buns and a salad mix. Came home, made au gratin potatoes, heated up some corn, made a salad, and heated up the beans. Got the kids dressed, decorated the cake (with "Happy Birthday Mom, Grandma, Mima", and flowers) loaded everything into the car and arrived at MIL's house at 6:30.
They had company, who decided to stay (thankfully I had made more food) and we had a wonderful time.

Hubby SO owes me!

  1. Oh yeah - he totally owes you! Good thing you could enjoy the evening - I usually get myself so cranky when those things happen that I just seethe all night!
