My darling 5 year old got off the bus Monday very excited about his day. He quickly informed me that they got to vote for the President. He then went on to explain that "There are 2 men running to the White House and the one who gets there first, gets to be President." and he got to pick who he thought would win.
He was very proud to say that he voted for John McCain. When questioned as to how he made his decision, he became a little shy and whispered "because he has white hair, like Papa." I guess, at 5, that's as good a reason as any.
I further questioned how the voting was done. Did they raise their hand, fill out a ballot, throw darts (just to see if he was paying attention). He confirmed it was by ballot and that he had put his X in front of Barack Obama. I said "I thought you voted for John McCain?" he said "I did." So I asked, "Then why did you put an X in front of Obama's name?" He said "Everyone knows that X means no, mom."
I voted for Barack and am proud to be raising my children in a society that has come so far. A country where a man is a man and the color of his skin is irrelevant. Congratulations Mr. President.
hahaha! he's cute! congratulations! your president won!
