The economy, the termites eating away at our house, the water under the house causing it to settle, Summer break and two kids home all day...I got myself a part-time job. Have you missed me?
Let's talk for a moment about re-entering the workforce after 4.5 years of staying home. Is it hard to adjust? Not really. Am I working in a filed I'm familiar with? Not even close. Am I enjoying myself? You betcha!
To all the companies out there that think it's a good idea to have new employees sit and watch videos all day as part of training: Rethink this. All my previous positions required this same form of training for my employees, different videos for different jobs within the company. I was a Manager and our training was more hands on. These videos are rarely updated, boring as heck, and usually no longer relative to the current positions. They depict a former "way of life" within a company and showcase scenarios, that in this economy, rarely exist. Let's get our people training with qualified personnel that they can interact with and train them on the "now" aspects of the job.
Congrats on the new job and great suggestions to employers! Best of luck in your job.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. And those old training films were antiquated when we first saw them in the '70s! Hopefully yours are a bit more recent than that!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job. Glad to hear that you are enjoying yourself.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new job! I hate those videos, you're right, they're usually completely outdated and always boring.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new job....and I concur....training videos, yech!!...
ReplyDeletecongratulations on your new job! :) training videos are so bo-ring. it's true that it's better to go hands on during training. :)

Congratulations. I know what you mean about those old videos. I use to train bus drivers and the videos were like a comedy show.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the job. Sometimes those videos can be a real source of entertainment. You can sit back and laugh and wonder what they were thinking when they put it together.
ReplyDeleteCongragulations!
ReplyDeleteMy job has a lot of training involved with it. Some of the training is strictly done via the computer, while others are done by watching a video, and others are hands on. I really do look forward to the hands on training, since it's always more exciting.
Congrats on the new job. I'm folloowing from MBC/ Follow Me Club.
