Mome reads Mommy, My daughter's way to spell it when she was younger... It stuck. My son calls me Mome... just like it looks. I now sign all my notes to them "Love, Mome". It's our inside secret and makes them smile. I always want them to smile.

I refuse to disappoint

While on vacation a couple weeks ago my son bought a Hexbug nano. Have you seen these? Cute little robot bugs that look like little centipedes. If the looked like spiders they wouldn't be so cute. They come in a variety of colors and have minds of their own. Tomorrow we are hosting a party for Hexbug. I'm looking forward to hosting and watching all the kids squirm with delight while building mazes and battle bridges to race their "bugs." But I feel like crap right now. Stricken with a nasty cold that has my nose stuffed and my tongue feeling like a strip of old leather. I've got my fingers crossed that it goes away before tomorrow so I can fully enjoy the party. It will happen regardless, 'cuz that's how I roll. I couldn't stand disappointing the kids when they have been so patient for this party to happen.

Got any quick cold remedies? Send them. I can use all the help I can get.

  1. When I feel one coming on I put a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide in my ears, and if I have a sore throat I gargle with that and water mixed together. It's gross but I swear it helps. You can google it. :)

Honey lemon tea too might help! I'm sorry, that really stinks. I HATE colds more than anything.

  3. Lindsey~ Is the ear thing in general or if you have or are prone to ear aches? I've gargles with peroxide before and yuck. Maybe it won't be so bad since my nose is stuffed and I can't taste. Thanks for the tip.

MLW~ We first saw them on vacation and my son HAD to have one. My daughter (4) thinks they are really fun too. They are fairly new on the market so don't be surprised if she's mentioning them soon:)

  4. I say cancel the party, don't spread your germs to all those kids. Their mothers will thank you for it. The party can always be re-scheduled and it teachers your kids as well as their friends you're being responsible. Having a party when you sick isn't a good idea. Aside from you not enjoying it, the kids will get sick which causes them to miss school, cost their parents money to buy meds and or go to the doctors. And their teachers will thank you too. I get really upset with people who come to work sick. That's a loose loose situation. Flu, colds right now are very bad which is why flu shots are being given out everywhere and far earlier than normal. Explain the situation to your kids, it's a learning opportunity for them and shows you respect them, their friends and yourself.

If you feel that bad now, you're not going to be well overnight. Sorry...tincture of time

  5. Thanks Sandy. I actually was thinking the same thing about getting everyone sick. Fortunately, I took some nyquil and went to bed at 8pm last night and am feeling much better today. If I still had a fever I'd cancel because no one needs to deal with sick kids.

I didn't realize that the flu shots were being given out early. I also can't remember the last time I had one:)

  6. ooohhhh...I just got my son one of those Hexbug things for his birthday that's in a week or so (shhh...don't tell!) It's some kind of Battle Dome thing that you can build and comes with two of the little buggies. I don't know...looked kind of cool. I figure boys like robots, right?

  7. Glad you're feeling better. My dad's already had his flu shot, and I was checking on my the other day. I sometimes come in contact with 200 people a day at work, and so the exposure is pretty great. I always get the shot and I do think it helps.
